Frankie De La Cruz and Tommy Murphy lived up to their lofty expectations Tuesday night at Isotopes Park.
And because they could walk the walk, Albuquerque was able to savage a split of a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds, winning 4-3, in front of 7,477 fans in Pacific Coast League baseball.
De La Cruz, the Isotopes ace, went six innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out four in a no-decision. Murphy went 2-for-4 from the plate to extend his hitting streak to a season-best 14 games.
Murphy hit a solo homer to tie the game at 3-3 in the eighth inning. Jai Miller hit a sacrifice fly to right in the same frame to plate Dallas McPherson for the winning run. Tagg Bozied got his 24th homer of the season on a solo shot in the first and finished with two RBIs to pace the 'Topes (59-72).
Ross Wolf (5-2) picked up the win and Brandon Villafuerte earned his fourth save in a solid effort from Albuquerque bull pen.
Kelvin Jimenez (1-5) got the loss. Third baseman David Freese drove in all three Memphis runs.
Albuquerque begins a four-game series with New Orleans today at 6:35 p.m. at Isotopes Park. The Isotopes send lefty Chris Seddon (9-9, 4.98 ERA) against right-hander Ruddy Lugo (7-11, 4.92).
