SAN DIEGO — Ryan Lindley threw three touchdown passes to lift the Aztecs to a 23-20 win over New Mexico on Saturday, the 12th straight loss for the Lobos.
Lindley threw a pair of TD passes to DeMarco Sampson, including the go-ahead score on a 4-yard pass with 7 minutes, 54 seconds to go in the game.
Lindley, who was 22 of 38 for 253 yards, also had scoring passes of 18 yards to Alston Umuolo and a 7-yarder to Sampson.
Donovan Porterie threw for one touchdown and ran for another for New Mexico (0-8, 0-4 Mountain West Conference), which had its eight-game winning streak over San Diego State (4-4, 2-2) snapped. Porterie completed 27 of 52 passes for 277 yards.
James Aho kicked two field goals.
New Mexico head coach Mike Locksley was back on the sidelines after missing one game while serving a 10-day suspension after he was accused of throwing a punch at receivers coach J.B. Gerald in a Sept. 20 incident.
Notes released by the university Friday on an athletic department investigation into the incident confirmed Locksley took a swing at Gerald, an apparent contradiction of what the school has said publicly about the altercation.
"I'm not going to talk about that right now," Locksley said. "I just want to talk about football. If you call on Sunday, we'll probably have some comments about it."
The university also released photographs of Gerald, including pictures showing a cut on his lip, what appeared to be a bruise on his neck and a cut or scrape on his arm.
According to the notes from the investigation, offensive line coach Mike Degory restrained Locksley as the coach grabbed Gerald's throat and choked him. Degory says Locksley "was still swinging at Gerald."
It was also the first game the Lobos have played against Rocky Long, the former UNM head coach and current SDSU defensive coordinator.
