From The Santa Fe New Mexican:July 17, 1908: George S. Blunt is putting up a very neat and attractive artificial stone wall in front of the Bishop cottage on Palace Avenue which will be a nice improvement.
J.M.C. Chavez, one of the best known citizens of Rio Arriba County and who is a successful fruit grower and farmer at Abiquiu, reached here last evening on legal and personal business.
July 17, 1958: Espanola - Espanola Policeman Eloy Martinez received his monthly pay check this week despite Mayor Cipriano Vigil's threat last month to withhold his pay. At a fiery city council meeting June 17, Mayor Vigil announced that Martinez was "fired" from the police force, effective June 30. The "firing" was done without council action and without setting a hearing for the policeman as prescribed by city ordinance. The mayor stood firm in his argument, even when it was pointed out that it takes council action to remove a man from the police force. To date, Martinez has received no notice of hearing before the police committee and no further action has been taken.
July 17, 1983: Homeowners on Acequia Madre gazed in dismay at muddy courtyards and makeshift dams Saturday after a broken water main flooded their street. Most of those hit hardest by the torrent were good humored about it, and residents of the east-side area said they met neighbors and made friends as people worked side-by-side to divert rushing water.
