From The Santa Fe New Mexican:

July 16, 1908: The Perez Band now numbers 22 members. The two new musicians in the persons of A. Gonzales and M.A. Franco arrived in the city last evening from El Paso and will make their first appearance with the band at the next concert.

J.W. Raynolds, secretary and treasurer of the Salado Livestock Co., returned last evening from Las Vegas where he accompanied his father-in-law, Daniel Baum, who was enroute to his home in Omaha after a visit with his daughter in Santa Fe.

Dr. David Knapp of this city has been appointed a member of the National Association for the Prevention of Tuberculosis. He will likely attend sessions of the congress in the fall and deliver a paper on the curative properties of New Mexico's climate.

July 16, 1958: The two-millionth telephone in the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co. was installed yesterday afternoon in the residence of Governor Luis Gonzales at San Ildefonso pueblo north of Santa Fe. The phone, the first installed in a home at any pueblo, was hooked up amidst ceremonies by officials of the phone company, Indian Agency officers and many local businessmen. Gov. Gonzales, obviously thrilled by all the ceremonies surrounding the installation, remarked that "this sure beats smoke signals."

July 16, 1983: Albuquerque — A tobacco company that will test-market a new more "full-bodied" cigarette in two New Mexico cities says studies show Hispanics shy away from low-tar smokes. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have been chosen as national test sites for the "Dorado" cigarette because the state has a large Hispanic population, marketing costs are lower in the state and marketing and sales can be more easily controlled and monitored, said Ligget & Myers Tobacco Co. officials.
