Santa Fe artist Kevin Box recently received a career boost from Texas.

The city of Houston purchased Box's large cast bronze leaf monuments for its Greenspoint Redevelopment project. The sculpture Beleafs will be installed as part of Houston's commitment to creating more aesthetically pleasing public spaces, an
e-mail said.

Box has been focused on his art from an early age. He was the youngest member ever inducted into the National Sculptors Guild.

Locals might be most familiar with the Kevin Box-Warren Cullar collaboration Rock Paper Scissors. That sculpture has become a landmark on Canyon Road. It stands in front of Selby Fleetwood Gallery at 600 Canyon Road.

The gallery has been representing Box since he moved here from Austin two years ago.

Where are the opportunities in the stock market as the Dow Jones Industrial Average reaches the 10,000 mark?

Financial adviser Neil Hokanson in his quarterly newsletter recommends looking at the beneficiaries of change, such as Quanta Services, which connects the electricity grid to new sources of energy or Cerner Corp., which automates medical records. There's also Visa, the debit and credit card company.

The city of Santa Fe is the first community in New Mexico to have obligated federal stimulus funds through the Neighborhood Stabilization program, according to an
e-mail from Kathy McCormick, the city's Housing and Community Development department director.

The city received about $2 million for the program after city staff applied for funding.

So far, LifeLink and Homewise have purchased three existing homes, and three more are under contract.

Homewise will sell the homes to qualified first-time buyers, and LifeLink will rent the homes to families with children, using existing programs to ensure rents remain affordable, McCormick said.

More homes will be purchased in the future.

The NSP program was created to stabilize communities that have suffered foreclosures and abandonment.
